Posted by Tom on Thursday, November 20 at 12:08 PM - Replies: 1

Hi everyone,

This Saturday we begin the winter training plan and with last night's great turnout at the meeting, it will be fun running this winter! Next Wednesday, November 26th for those interested we will meet at 6:30PM at Mundelein High School for a tempo run - runners of all levels are welcome. After Thanksgiving we will have a set Thursday night(6:30PM) tempo run group meet at MHS during the winter. Below is this weekend's plan - hope you can join us.

Saturday Run
The plan is to meet at the Mundelein Park District at 7:00AM and we'll have two run groups going. One group will be doing a long run of 8 miles and another group will be doing a shorter run of 4 miles. Both groups will start together and run the same first 2 miles before the 4 mile group turns back. Bring your hat, gloves, and warm attitude for nice group run! After the run we will head to Starbucks for some hot chocolate or coffee.

Sunday Spin Class
The Mundelein Park District has a 8:30AM spin class. The spin class is one hour long and is great for cross-training.

Hope you can join us this weekend as we begin the winter running season!

Have a great weekend.

Tom

I wanted to thank all who showed up for the Waukegan/Lyons Woods trail run this past Saturday. It was awesome to have such a great turnout! Everyone seemed to enjoy the trail, so I hope we can continue to explore other possible locations. Once again, thanks everyone! I had a great time!

Possible Waukegan/Beach Park Trail

Posted by Ian on Sunday, October 05 at 04:45 PM - Replies: 9

Hi Tom And Everyone.

I think I've found a great trail to run in my neck of the woods. It's at Lyons Woods on Sheridan Rd. The parking lot for the trail is located just south of Yorkhouse, on the corner of Sheridan Rd. and Blanchard Rd. Maybe we can plan for a run at the end of the month. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for your time.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Posted by Tom on Thursday, November 06 at 12:11 PM - Replies: 2

Hi everyone,

Hope your training is going great! Below is the weekend plan and more information on the winter running plan. Also, the wrap up from the Hot Chocolate 15k race.

Saturday Run
The plan is to meet at the downtown Libertyville train station at 7:00AM for a easy 4 mile run. Park near the Caribou coffee shop at the east end of the parking lot. After the run, let's stop in Caribou and talk about the winter running plan. We have runners of all paces, so join us for a run!

Sunday Ride
Let's meet at 9:00AM at Mundelein High School for a 1.5hr ride on road bikes. The ride will be nice and easy just like the last ride we did.

Winter Running Plan
We decided to train for the Cary 1/2 marathon to be held on March 15, 2009. Race registration opens on December 31st and will sell out the same day. Briefly, the plan is to have a long run every Saturday morning and a Thursday night tempo run. The winter running will officially begin on Saturday, November 22nd. Winter running is so much easier and fun when you run with a group - join us this winter! Next week I will email the entire 16 week plan and you can decide then if you want to train with us!

Hot Chocolate 15k - results
We had a great time as 30 runners participated in this race. Everyone did awesome! It was so much fun driving down with such a large group and to see everyone not only at the race but during as well. I will have copies of the group photo available at the run on Saturday. Thanks again to Karen O'keeffe for organizing the group and Julie Hupp for bringing this race to our attention. There is talk of doing the Gurnee Turkey Trot - more on this later.

Have a great weekend

With the cooler temperatures now is a great time to start your running program. We have runners of all levels and all are welcome so please join us for a run soon.

Next up --Hot Chocolate 5k or 15k

Posted by Karen O on Tuesday, September 23 at 12:25 PM - Replies: 16

So Loren appears to be looking for the next fun thing. Last week Julie was talking about the hot chocolate 15k/5k downtown. It is Sunday, November 2 at 7am. I might be able to get talked into this one as they seem to be dangling chocolate in front of us. Let me know if anyone is interested. I would want to do the 15k, which is 9 point something miles. I am just thinking of running it for fun. Plus this seems to be Melissa's new distance. Anyone interested?

Route Question

Posted by Patty Rudolph on Tuesday, August 19 at 09:35 PM - Replies: 5

Hello everyone! Does anyone know of a website that will help you figure out the mileage of a run? For instance, we have been and will continue to be traveling a lot and I keep driving around towns in WI and MN to "map out" my miles - to make sure I am keeping up with my running distance. Is there a runners equivalent of Mapquest that will route out a 9 mile loop in Rhinelander, WI so we don't have to spend the time driving around before the run (do I have to say getting lost too)? Would love to hear if anyone found such a tool! We will be out of town again this Sat/Sun - but I hope you all have a great run/ride.

Maps?

Posted by Ian on Friday, September 12 at 09:30 AM - Replies: 1

Hi everyone! I'm relativly new to Golden Legs & the Lake Co. areas. I am having some troubles locating some of the sites where the Sat. runs are held. So, I was wondering if someone could post a map link with the weekend plans. Or maybe, have a map on the website with all the normal meeting places. This would be extremely helpfull & I would be very grateful.

Thank you for your time, Ian.

Golden Legs - plan for Nov. 15/16

Posted by Tom on Wednesday, November 12 at 06:02 PM - Replies: 0

Hi everyone,

This Saturday morning for our group run we will travel to Waukegan to run on a trail called Lyons Woods close to where Ian trains. This Sunday there is no ride planned. Below is the weekend plan and more information on the winter running plan. Hope everyone is doing great!

Saturday Run
Ian, a fellow runner who lives in Waukegan has a great trail route set for us in Waukegan. The plan is to meet at the Mundelein Park District at 6:30AM and carpool up to the trail location by 7:00AM where Ian will meet us. The run distances will be a 3 and 6 mile run to choose from. We should be back to the Mundelein area by 9:15AM. Hope you can join us at this new run location. Thanks Ian for planning this run for our group!

For those traveling on their own, Lyons Woods is located at the corner of Sheridan Rd. and Blanchard Rd. just south of Yorkhouse. The directions I have are to take Grand Ave east to Sheridan then make a left to head north to Lyons Woods. I can drive 7 other runners in my car.

Sunday Ride
No ride scheduled

Winter Running
We've decided to train for the Cary 1/2 marathon to be held on Sunday, March 15, 2009. With all those great times I saw at the Hot Chocolate 15k a few weeks ago, I know it will be fun training with all of you! Keep in mind, you don't have to be training for the Cary 1/2 to run with us this winter. We will also have runs planned for those looking to get back in shape or those just starting a new running program. It will be great to see both groups running/training together this winter! Our group runs will be in different locations including Barrington and Cary for some hills along with Mundelein, Libertyville and other locations depending on the weather.

The training plan we will try to closely follow is the plan I found right out of the book titled Run Less Run Faster. The basic concept of this great book is to train with purpose. The training plan is called 3 plus2 which means you run 3 days per week and cross-train 2 days with either swimming or cycling. Instead of posting the entire plan here, I think we should have a group meeting to discuss this winter running plan and what your individual plan should look like based on your current level of fitness. At this meeting we can talk about this plan, answer any questions, and I will also have copies of the plan and the book. Let's meet next Wednesday night November 19th at 7:00PM at Panera Bread in Libertyville on Milwaukee Ave. Please email me if you plan to attend - thanks.

Have a great weekend!

Tom
